tired of the green veggies, already!
There are still the remnants of a dozen cucumbers and several zucchini in my fridge, despite eating and eating them.. and a tub of frozen blackberries that didn't thaw in time to make it into jelly and jam last weekend. Let's just say that I do not need to get to the farmers market in a while.

The watermelons are growing wild, including one that is hanging down from a fence! (um? what do I do here? stick a box under it?!) The zucchinis are coming quick, and there are tons and tons of peppers - just waiting for them to change color!

My favorite guy at the moment in the garden is this - summer squash. This picture has a little tiny baby squash! :) or look here.

My husband is already rolling his eyes at the veggie eating happening around here.. will have to start giving it away, or hiding it better in food! :)

one yummy thing from this week: cucumber salad! Basically, vinegar and sugar and some spices and onion (added later). YUM!

Next time - knitting! I have been inspired by all the green I suppose, and am finally working on finishing up my linen (ick!) shell border t-shirt kit I got at stitches two years ago. man it hurts my fingers, but I am past the sleeves and just have the raglan top to do! This would be great to wear in the summer heat, so maybe by the end of the month I'll have it done?

If you're tired of your zucchini, you can harvest the blossoms - they are delicious stuffed with ricotta and lightly fried (tempura style) - there are many internet recipes.

yeah, I've seen that.. harvesting the male blossoms, since they don't produce squash. I should totally try that! I don't think I'll ever tire of the zucchini though, much as my husband hates it! :)

So pretty! And I'm with you on the zucchini, I love it. It seems like the Gourmet mag from last month was zucchini every other recipe.
I'm wishing I'd done a garden this year, but we were hoping to be in our own place by now.
I've got some semi-good news, I'm too lazy to drop a separate e-mail--the price increase coming on Louet doesn't include the Gems, those are staying the same, so there will be no third price increase on them (yet, this year). A suspicious part of me wonders if they did the price increase e--mail to whip up sales during the traditionally slow summer months in an already slumping market since it basically said, "oh noes, we're increasing prices in two weeks, stock up!" but they hadn't sent out an e-mail to warn people of the last round of price increases. Nah, they wouldn't do that.

I have it on good authority that zucchini chips are good. But you need a food dryer. I have also frozen grated zucchini to use in bread over the winter. (Who wants to turn on the oven now? Okay maybe today but today is not normal for DC weather.)

I use a Dijon based vinaigrette for my cucumber salad and add chopped tomatoes, sweet onion and basil.

And You may need to put something on the hanging melon. Just remeber that the freezer is your best friend with a garden.
